About

This class would suit anyone who is just starting out with a yoga practice or any yoga practitioner wanting to improve and introduce a greater alignment to their postures and yoga form.

Seoidín O’Sullivan has been practicing yoga for the last 20 years and qualified as an Iyengar Yoga Teacher in 2012 with Senior Level Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Aisling Guirke. She is currently training for her Iyengar Intermediate Teacher Training Yoga certificate.

Iyengar Yoga, named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, is a form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the asanas. Iyengar Yoga focuses on the structural alignment of the physical body through the development of asanas. Through the practice of a system of asanas, it aims to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well-being. This discipline is considered a powerful tool to relieve the stresses of modern-day life which in turn can help promote total physical and spiritual well-being.

More about

“You do not need to seek freedom in a different land, for it exists with your own body, heart, mind, and soul.”

B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Life

Within my classes I aim for my students to work with their own bodies capabilities , focusing on introducing greater flexibility, agility and energy back to the somatic system. We develop deep breathe work connecting the mind to the present moment and body which improves self awareness and grounding bringing an inner strength and calm . Iyengar yoga has a deep focus on the body’s muscular and skeletal structure, the practice has been developed to use props ( belts, blocks and bricks) to support people at all levels of practice so that they can get the greatest benefit from the postures and introduce a more exact body alignment correcting any imbalance. With practice one gains greater flexibility which can complement other sports activities and training.

I have received great benefit from my Iyengar yoga practice over the years and I aim to pass on this benefit and learning to others within the classes I teach.

“Yoga is like music: the rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind, and the harmony of the soul create the symphony of life.”

B.K.S. Iyengar
